Shady Mountain Pet Retreat: Where Pets Go to Get Away from It All! And LEARN, too.
Shady Mountain Pet Retreat is a first class pet resort with ALL the amenities. While here your dog will run and play all day long in the lush pastures of Shady Mountain Farm. Our visitors receive daily training in any discipline from obedience and behavior modification to Rally-O, Agility, tricks and Studio Animal acting.
Our new facility is nearing completion. The log siding has been installed and stained. The interior framing and drywall is complete. I can't wait to decorate!! Each of the 6, 6' x 8' interior suites will be unique; with bright colors, wall hangings, and window treatments. Each suite will also feature raised metal beds and dishes, non-slip flooring and ceiling fan/lights.

Shady Mountain Pet Retreat is owned and operated by award winning author, Miriam Fields-Babineau. Ms. Fields-Babineau has been a professional animal trainer since 1978. She has worked at Franklin Park Children's Zoo, Washington D.C. National Zoo and started her own company in 1983 teaching pet owners how to live harmoniouslywith their pet dogs, cats, birds and horses. Her first book, Dog Training Basics, was published in 1995 with many books to follow; including the award winning Cat Training in 10 Minutes and best-sellers Labradoodle, Puggle, Click and Easy: Clicker Training for Dogs and the recently released Mixed Breeds for Dummies. Her latest books, Rat Training in 10 Minutes and Training the Family Dog, are scheduled for release in 2009. She has provided animals of all species for media productions since 1983.
Each of our four-legged visitors are treated as though they were our own favorite pets. And you can bet our own pets are happy, healthy, spoiled with tons of affection and enjoy being with us as much as they can. Ms. Fields-Babineau is constantly surrounded by her animals.
Shady Mountain Pet Retreat offers the following services:
Silver Package - $40/day/dog
Includes 4 hours/day of social play with other dogs, 2 meals/day, off-to-bed-treat, brushing, and bath prior to going home.
Gold Package - $60/day/dog
Includes at least 6 hours/day of social play with other dogs, 2 meals/day, off-to-bed-treat, brushing, administering medication, daily training, complete spa treatment (hair, nails, ear and teeth cleaning) prior to going home.
Platinum Package - $75/day/dog
Includes living in the main house with Miriam Fields-Babineau and her 3 dogs and 4 cats. 3-6 hours of social play with other dogs, depending on the weather. Administering medication, 2 meals/day, plus snacks at midday and bedtime. Daily training and complete spa treatment prior to going home.
10% discount for multiple dogs!
Other services include pick up and delivery, in-home training lessons, on site training lessons, housetraining, behavior modification, personal shopper for your K9.
Exterior of **current satellite dog suite. **While the resort is under construction, there are satellite suites offering 6' x 10' of interior space with a non-slip concrete floor, heat and air conditioning and fans, doggie door to 1.25 acre fenced play yard and free access to fresh water. Each suite features 2 beds - platform or hammock, large stainless steel water bucket and raised feeders.
Several types of training are given to each visitor. Individual and group. Once each individual has a good idea of how to perform basic concepts they must learn to perform them in a group as well.
Shady Mountain Pet Retreat is on Shady Mountain in Amherst, VA. The views are terrific! They can be seen from every window of the lodge and overlooks along the mountain trails. Peace overcomes visitors as the beauty and solitude engulf them in nature's bounty.
While here, dogs enjoy hiking on mountain trails, lots of attention, grooming, bathing and medical administration without any additional charge.
Other features of Shady Mountain Pet Retreat: Two community play yards - one for small or sedate dogs and one for the big, boistrous dogs. Play yards have stone dust surface. Wading pool available during hot months for water-loving dogs. The training arena has fabulous mountain views. (See above picture of one of our visitors enjoying the view from the training arena) Agility and Rally-O course. Indoor training area on the first floor of the lodge.

Reservations ARE required. If reserving a visit near or during a holiday please do so 3 months in advance. We have only 6 suites so that each visitor can receive loads of personal attention.
